Thank you to those who prayed and gave towards the trip to Sudan in January, 2006. Here is my report...

We had completed, for the second time, a week in the Sudanese village of Adoor. It is hundreds if miles from the nearest tarmac road, thousands of miles from the riches of Britain and a generation away from anything we might consider ‘development’.
Incare’s Harry Wake and I returned to this remote community to continue our work alongside the Sudanese leaders there. This time Rotherham New Life Centre’s John Andrews joined in, moving in to the ‘tukul’ mud hut with us along with one bat, two mice, dozens of lizards and thousands of nibbling termites.
In searing heat and amidst desperate need, we saw God at work. Praise the Lord – no matter how far we travel, it is not beyond the touch of our heavenly Father, the grace of His Son Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit. The region we were in seems like the ‘wild west’ of mission where it costs thousands to even get there, local government and aid agencies are stained with corruption, and basic items are sold to the locals by Arabs at prices many times what you and I pay at home. The BBC reported recently that Sudan has the greatest number of impoverished people in sub-Saharan Africa. According to the World Food Programme over 6.1 million Sudanese require food aid due to conflict, refugees, and drought.

Before we flew to Sudan we enjoyed a fleeting yet inspiring visit with Larry and Joyce Lambert at the excellent Nairobi Pentecostal Bible College. What an honour to speak that day in chapel. Then to Adoor we journeyed. We prayed, we taught 100 pastors for 3 days (few of whom have the Bible in any language; there is no translation yet in their mother tongue), we negotiated and explored agricultural projects, and after 6 days we boarded the chartered plane on a dusty airstrip with grateful hearts, heading for home.
As the small Cessna lifted off from Malualkon, my heart overflowed onto the pages of my journal with this prayer:
Father of Heavenly Lights, how I love You. How my heart melts at the thought of You, Your perfect faithfulness and awesome power. You are the great Almighty, to be feared and honoured. Every village, every nation is within Your eternal gaze. My heart bows before You.
I just want to say thank You, Lord, for kissing my life with privilege and affection. I did not choose, or deserve, to be born into the family you gave me, the riches you afford me. Your grand plan for me is hallmarked by grace and the seal of adoption as Your child. Thank You for my loving wife, beautiful children – I could never have dreamed or asked for more. Thank You Jesus, Head of the victorious Church, for the gift of fellow pilgrims, spiritual children and the community of faith You have planted us in. How wealthy we are in our knowledge of your grace and the Truth of your Word!
This work in Africa, Father, is a privilege. Thank You. Though You have not chosen to give birth to me in this tortured land, immersed in poverty and hardship, I hear Your call to do what I can to bless those who are. We must, and will, do what we can with what we have. I choose to minister to You Jesus, wherever You ask me to serve. On this day, on this plane, you hear my heart’s prayer – glory to You!
Perhaps you can say amen to this prayer; I hope you can. Thank you for joining with us in heartfelt prayer and positive action for the people of Adoor and all those in Sudan. If you want further details about how to pray and what to give, please get in touch. My prayer today is this:
May many more of those saved by grace and endowed with wealth invest richly in the task of Kingdom mission… may no land be God-forsaken or Church-neglected. In the name of Jesus, amen.
Humbly submitted, Tim Roberts
